Nope, don’t ask. But hey! Look over here!

No news on the farm yet.  Its coming.  I am not chilling any champagne, but I am considering buying some.  If not for closing on the farm at last, at least I can celebrate my first ride on my BLM mustang!  It was pouring rain, but in spite of the fact that she kept wanting to turn her tail into the wind whenever we stopped, she did great.  Very soft and responsive, if a little all over the place.  She is still learning to balance herself with a rider, but she moves out willingly and has a great whoa.

first rideThe summer chinook are coming into the Columbia, along with the summer steelhead.  Not sure if this is a june fish or a late springer, but they all taste good!

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIt is berry season-I got out to pick some local organic strawberries, my favorite variety:  Shuksan.  I look forward to growing a patch of these myself, and sharing them with you.  So good.  They have a little more flavor than Hoods I think (I like Hoods, but they are so sweet they make my teeth hurt and they are super fragile), and hold up better.  Great variety for making jam and freezing, but also outstanding when fresh and at their peak, like these were.  My husband claimed these particular berries were the best strawberries he had ever eaten.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAWe are hanging in there, although with every week that passes the options of what we can grow this year are reduced.  We will just have to roll with the punches.  Happy summer everyone, I promise when we close on the property I will let everyone know!  In the meantime, eat your veggies (and fruits!).
